New York City, New York – the city that never sleeps. This is the common description many of us had learned about this city. It never sleeps because the fun, the lights, the sounds, and the life never ends the whole day in New York City. While the whole world is already sleeping, New York City is still awake with thousands of tourists from all over the world enjoying all kinds of fun in the streets, in bars, in Broadway shows, in Times Square, in Rockefeller Center – everywhere!
What mesmerizes me most in this city is the Times Square. This is the place that has many faces throughout the year. Giant digital billboards and their dancing lights at night are like glittering stars from the distance. And once you’re near them, you’ll feel like dancing with them, as they glide on the walls of gigantic skyscrapers.
Times Square is the most bustling square in New York City; surrounded by Broadway theaters, modern cinemas, first class bars, signature stores, and even the biggest Toys R Us for kids. The TKTS ampitheater is the latest addition to the tourist spot in this area. It has 27 red-colored steps that serves also as roof of the popular TKTS building where tourists line for bargain tickets for the Broadway shows in the area, and other shows around New York City.

Every year, as the clock nears midnight of December 31, millions of people from all over the world turn their eyes on the dazzling New Year’s Eve Ball at One Times Square Building. This event is not just a New York City tradition, watched by thousands of revelers who converge in the square. It’s also watched on TV sets by millions of people nationwide, and billions of people from all over the world. As the ball drops at its pole at the countdown from 10 to zero (12:00 midnight), the place becomes noisy with people shouting, screaming with joys – bidding goodbye to the old year, and welcoming the new year. Multi-colored confetti drop like feathery snows from heaven, all coming from the skyscrapers around the square.
New York City’s Times Square is just one of the most visited tourist spots of the city that’s also known as “The Big Apple.” On the next blog, I’ll post a list of them, with brief descriptions that would give you ideas on how they look like and where they are located.
